Hello and welcome to the Round Up – Week 4 post for Quote Quest.

This week we have the the very lovely Julie from Master’s Pleasing Bitch as our round up guest <3

I’m really enjoying contributing to Quote Quest, LSB’s new meme. I’m finding good quotes are a way to explore myself in different ways and it seems I’m not alone. I’m really happy to have been asked to do the round up for week 4 and there were some great posts. Which of course makes it a difficult job, but a fun one.

My first choice is Honouring the darkness by Amy of Coffee and Kink.

Please note the CW: abuse, mental illness, trauma and CNC for this post.

So much erotica seems to link abuse to kink and BDSM, but as Amy writes, although the nature of her kink is informed by the things that have happened to her in the past, they are not caused by them. Instead loving kink and a limited loss of power is a way of exploring the darkest corners of Amy’s self. Of course, as Amy points out there are many lighter, much more fun things that go with this lifestyle, but those times must be helped along by being able to confront more difficult issues.

“Perhaps it is reclamation through choice, or perhaps it is the ability to rewrite the narrative. Perhaps it is simply the knowledge that the only reason I can willingly give power away is because I have it in the first place.”

My second choice is Indulging the Darkness by Floss of Floss Does Life.

I am really enjoying reading about Floss’s new relationship. In particular how this differs from those that went before and the choices she has made have helped her get to this happy place. Too few people take control of their lives, and when they try to people tend to be quick to warn that making such changes are risky. But in the pursuit of happiness you have to be willing to take risks. I found myself nodding as I read this post. In particular this read true of my own journey:

“For a long time, I thought freedom meant being single, independent and having no ties to anyone else. I’ve come to realise that it is less about that and more about feeling free to express myself and acknowledge all aspects of who I am”

My third choice is Loving Lana and Other Confessions of a Basic Bitch by Violet Fawkes of Love Violet.

I love Violet’s no-nonsense direct style. In her post she makes no secret of her love for Lana Del Rey and avocado on toast, which are both great things in my book. Kink helps us explore those dark places, the things that we might otherwise be scared to express. Like Violet, kink has taught me things about myself I didn’t even know I needed to think about:

“I have looked at all my darkest fantasies, and I have built a life in which I can experience them. Kink has made a huge difference in my life. I know that seems dramatic, but it’s true. I have learned more about myself, my body, communication and pleasure through kink than through anything else. “

Thanks again to Julie for being the Round Up Week 4 guest <3 You can check out other round up posts here
