Hello and welcome to the Round Up – Week 5 post for Quote Quest.

This week we have the the very lovely Nikki from Love is a Fetish as our round up guest <3

What an insightful group of posts to have to narrow down! So much pain, but also so much resilience, strength and determination.  As hard as some of these posts were to read, it’s clear that self-doubt plagues us all in one way or another and writing through those feelings and fears can be an effective tool to lead us out of the darkness.

My First Break Up, Aged 41 – Victoria Blisse

This was a powerful, heart wrenching read. I think she nailed it when she compared the entire process to grieving the loss of a loved one. A profound loss is a loss, whether it is an ultimate loss like death or a metaphoric one in the form of a breakup, which as they so eloquently said:

“Even though I knew it wasn’t the end of everything it was still the cessation of something that was very much part of my everyday life.”

You have to adjust your life to moving forward without a part that you’ve come to know as a truth. That isn’t easy on a good day.

I wrote my way out – Amy from Coffee and Kink

I loved how Amy talks about that almost incessant drive to write from a young age. The words just refused to be kept silent. I can definitely remember being a teenager and those words spewing like incantations full of hormonal fire. Ugh. Some days I don’t feel too far removed from that, but I digress. She nailed it when she said she can’t not write.

“Sometimes, I feel like my trauma is a slow-acting poison that will destroy me from the inside out if I don’t occasionally exorcise some of it from my bloodstream. Writing is that exorcism, that bloodletting, that antidote sucking the venom out of me.”

Screw you self doubt! – Floss Does Life

As always Floss brings the “fuck it” inspiration I fell in love with a couple years ago when I found her blog. She brilliantly laid out how she came to a place where she found confidence in her words, writing for herself and not worrying so much what everyone else thinks about it.

“It can be hard writing about things that so deeply affect me. I have written through tears, I have confronted hard truths and I have fought with myself over whether or not to hit publish. Even though blogging is a choice I make that doesn’t mean that every choice is in itself easy.”
