Hello and welcome to the Round Up – Week 53 post for Quote Quest.
This week we have the very lovely Monstrous Jaffa as our round up guest for week 53 <3 You can check out MJ on twitter here.
“Between my finger and my thumb the squat pen rests; snug as a gun.”
Firstly, I’d like to thank LittleSwitchBitch for inviting me to review this QuoteQuest. The words of Seamus Heaney sum up so well the potential power that lies in the grasp of any writer as they pick up the tools of their trade and prepare to commit their work to paper. How would the blogging world use that power this week?
Cocked and Loaded – Morag’s Musings
Firstly there is this sumptuous piece from Morag detailing her re-uniting with a dearly missed lover. The separations we have all endured during this last year have been hard to bear. Families, friends, lovers – all those connections strained, time together lost. Although she is writing about sex, for me Morag has defined something we must all have felt during those fleeting meetings with loved ones that we have been allowed: “We’ve already done so much in the time we’ve had, and there is still so much more to do.”
Writing and my love of stationary – Master’s Pleasing Bitch
Next Julie brought us a love letter to the joys of stationary. It is clear that a gun holds not interest to her, but that there is a deep and profound joy in creating with brightly coloured inks on rigorously annotated notebooks. This line “I’m learning French and have made copious notes in an A5 notebook. Using different colours to denote verbs, prepositions, tenses…..” reminds me so much of the joy I found as a teenager writing out song listings on mix tapes, each song in a different ink. The power of those tools so carefully and lovingly wielded.
